Default Broken Toe

Good Day All,

I came home from work late last night and found that Yoshi our parakeet was walking funny across her perch. On closer inspection I noticed that Yoshi's back toe was facing the opposite direction. I freaked out. I didnt know what to do.

I called around to local vets but none were open. This morning Yoshi seems to be better and is flying and landing much better but readjusts her left foot till the broken toe goes back into place so she can sit properly. She is flying eating and drinking and having her normal fun with daisy our other parakeet. I read quickly on the net there is nothing really I can do that it will heal and set on its own but wanted a more opinions before I do anything. Please help.

Thank you
john

there's a lot of very educated people on here, so i don't know why not.

I hope you figured something out. (sorry, i don't know about broken toes, but i can post so this thread gets bumped back up the list and maybe you'll get some help)

I do not know what you can do, but try to keep the budgie sitting still will not help. the only thing I can think of, can you attached something to the foot so the toe is pointing back again and hope it will heal. I think I have seen somewhere in my bird books of a way too do it. Will have a look and try to post it.

I think a trip to the vets is a good idea, so you can get Yoshi on some painkellers if neccessary

However... we have had budgies, older budgies, which this has happened to before. Just one of the back toes curls forwards. It didnt seem to hurt her and our avian vet said sometimes this just happens to older budgies.

I would see a vet if you can, just to make sure though i dont know how this thread got missed though!
