Question What does an iodine block look like?

When I adopted Oceanna she came with a cuttlebone and two blocks one pink and one grey. I am not sure whether these are iodine blocks or just mineral blocks. When I decided to buy one instead of guessing I couldn't find one at my local Petsmart. I will post pictures if needed.I think she is showing signs of iodine deficiency so I think I need to put one in her cage.
Thanks for any help

That's what they both look like. Unfortunately everything I got from her foster Mom had no packaging, so I have no way of knowing what the ingredients are. Should I put the block in just to be safe? I also have another question...she is spending a majority of her waking hours on her mineral perch even though she has other perches available to her.I've read that it is not good for her to be on that type of perch all the time. Should I remove it for awhile and force her to use her other perches?

Mineral block and iodine block can look almost identical. You should get one of each.

Is the mineral perch the highest in the cage? If so, move it lower and put a natural wooden or rope perch in the highest position. Budgies like to be up high.

@Aayllaa...I've looked for iodine blocks and can't seem to find them. She already has a mineral perch. I wish I knew if these blocks I already have were iodine.

@Jobops...She sleeps on a wood perch that is the highest. Her mineral perch was closest to her cage door and she sat on it all the time. I purchased a really nice wood perch and replaced the mineral perch (which moved to another place in the cage) She has now taken to sitting on the mineral perch in it's new location. That's why I am thinking of removing it for a week and then putting it back to see what happens.

Here is a picture of her cage and her sitting on the mineral perch. And also a picture of the block I had which looks like the block in Spiky's pic.

I don't know about in the US but in Australia the blocks are a different colour to distinguish the different ingredients. The grey coloured one is probably just calcium. The pink coloured one usually contain iodine and other minerals. With black sort of flecks it is calcium with charcoal.

You may be able to buy liquid iodine from the pharmacist or your avian vet. It is called Lugol's Iodine. Use one drop to 30ml water. This should be available to the bird once a week.

No..they don't have them at Petsmart or on any of the online bird suppliers. They all say mineral blocks. I will check with my vet about the liquid iodine. I thought maybe someone may know of a source. Most of the "bird" stores around here only cater to large birds so they have very little in stock for parakeets.
