Question Can female budgies talk and do tricks?

So I'm going to buy a budgie from my local pet store. The majority of budgies there are young though, so you can't tell their sex apart from the color of their cere. So I'll be getting whatever budgie looks healthy and is a pretty color to me.

I would like to teach it to talk and do tricks though. If I ended up getting a female, would it be willing to learn to talk and do tricks? Or is that a thing that only mostly males learn to do?

Females can learn, although I admit it is easier to teach a male Budgie to talk. I'm not sure why, although I know it for a fact. I recommend getting a runt...Mickey is a runt and he was the easiest to teach for everything! The day we got him he was on our finger. What can I say? He's a one in a million!

My Gracie talked when she was alone, but since being
with the flock doesnt so much do it now. They can learn,
and budgies arn't the clearest talkers after-all. As I say, they
all sound like transformers haha. Female do bite harder and get
more grumpy than males, but are still wonderful pets
I don't think you have anything to worry about

I have had both male and female budgies in the past who all talked and one of my best talkers was a female lutino who I loved to hear as she even had a laugh like me.

It just takes patience and a lot of love..

Just adding a note: My Mollie is singing and talking better than her cage mate, Mikey. Yes, she is a bit grumpier and bites me at times and is pure female thru and thru! lol, but she sings and chirps to the top of her voice and chatters away! I have been talking a lot to them, so , I guess she really wanted to talk! She was the first to hop onto my finger and she does flips around the perches too. She is a funny girl!

My Gracie-Mae is very smart I think She tries to say some phrases like"good girl" and "pretty girl" but she is much better at imitating noises she hears around the house. She does a dead on impersonation of the cell phone, microwave, washing machine, vacuum cleaner and the computer's opening beep She loves to chirp and sing all day long. I've never tried to teach her words or phrases, she has done it completly on her own.
Good luck on your quest for a new budgie!
