Default New budgie behavior?

We got jewel on Christmas eve. She has stayed pretty quiet and mostly in the back of her cage except to eat.

This evening she is EVERYWHERE! The ladder, the perches, finally got IN the birdbath dish, she's getting IN her food dish (which has a cover) and on top of it. Swinging on her swing and climbing all over.

This is good right? Is she just getting comfortable?

It's WONDERFUL! It often takes much longer than that for a budgie to acclimated to her new surroundings. Consider yourselves to be very fortunate -- Jewel is an adventurous and happy little girl!

Wow. Maybe it was a fluke. But I just rested my hand in her cage, and after maybe two minutes she was nibbling my fingers and even stepped onto my hand (which I kept perfectly still). She kept trying to go do other stuff but kept coming back. Curious little thing she is :-D
After about 10 minutes she let me PET her chest and back!
I'm just shocked! I thought it would take weeks for me to touch her! She has not been handled before

Where did you get her? If she was hand fed maybe she was missing the attention She is adorable! I wish my budgie was that trusting. I have had him 3 months and we are still on a very thin line right now. I can hold him, but its scary. Have fun with your girl no doubt she will be a little princess in no time lol

She came from a chain pet store so I don't think she has been handled at all.

Yes, Jewel is a budgie owners dream come true. We're all told to hold back for 2 weeks and let the budgie settle in to it's new surroundings. Only feed and water it as gently and softly as possible. Jewel is telling you otherwise that she's comfortable with you right now. My second budgie was like this, out of the cage, on the hand and talking in 2 weeks. Never was there a budgie so right for me! I guess I need Lindsey to tell me how to spot one of these type A be all you can be budgies so I can brlng back this fun your gone to have.

Good luck with Jewel, you really got the name right!----Ken
