Default Ears

I heard if you can see your budgies ears when thier heads are dry that means they might be sick, is this true?

As far as I know, there is no correlation between being able to see a budgie's ears and them being sick. It is quite possible that a budgie has moulted feathers around the ear area which makes it visible...

Do you have a budgie with visible ears?

You haven't noticed any discharge or discolouration of the feathers around the ear area have you?

Is there new feather growth surrounding the ears? It could be a moult and the new feathers will cover the ears again in a few days. Keep an eye on it and make sure there is no redness or discharge.

This is a little off-topic, but I didn't realize budgies had ears you could see. I thought they were kind of like a snake's ears..."built into" the head and not really visible. Hmm. Now I wanna see some budgie ears!

Your "built-into the head" ear comment made me laugh. You are right that they are "built in". Sometimes when they have been moulting, you can see parts of the ear holes. Typcially though, you don't ever get to see them.

If you look at a baby budgie who isn't fully feathered, it's quite fascinating to see their ears.
