Default Volkman Avian Science - good seed mix?

I was going to place an online order for JayJay. I'm looking for an excellent seed mix. Most of you probably know of Volkman Avian Science. It seems really cheap. Is that a great seed mix? If not, can you recommend something?

Volkman Avian Science Super Diets offer a whole constellation of heavenly ingredients to provide balanced nutrition for pet birds. Each Avian Science Diet blend has added vitamins, minerals and amino acids for your birds health. Store in a cool dry place and refrigerate when opened to extend freshness. As with all seed diets one should supplement with fresh fruits, vegetables, treats and cooked foods to give your birds added variety and nutrition.

Ingredients: White Proso Millet, Canary Grass Seed, Oat Groats, Red Proso Millet, Flax Seed, Rape Seed, Small Cracked Corn, Nyjer Seed, Sunflower Chips, Hemp Seed, Vitamized Oat Groats, Fruit Mix, Carrot Granules, Oyster Shell, Spinach Flakes, and Orange Oil.

I've heard that it's very good, but have never used it. The ingredients list looks good though-- no preservatives, additives, or artificial color/flavor.

My favorite seed mix is Dr. Harvey's Best Parakeet Seed (http://www.drharveys.com/products/sh...-parakeet-food) because it's all natural and human grade, and contains a ton of herbs and veggies that most don't.

What scares me about Volkman, is that it's so cheap. It is half as much as Dr. Harvey's.

Have you tried What's Cookin'?

Ohhh, haha, silly me, I thought What's Cookin' was another brand of seed mix. I actually haven't tried that but I tried Dr. Harvey's "Veg to Bowl" and Charles just hated it. He much prefers fresh veggies. I didn't want to spend another $11 on a big bag of something that he might not eat... I just prepare him some baby carrots and other veggies instead Then again he didn't like Beak Appetit either which I've heard many budgies love. I wish they did trial sizes of the What's Cookin'!

I was wondering why you hadn't tried it. You seemed to be a fan of Dr. Harvey's.

Haha, I am. I actually don't even use it all that much though because I've finally converted Charles to pellets, but I offer him seeds every once in a while for variety and as a treat because he loves them

I use the Volkmans parakeet, because as the label says" the best bird diet in the world" so it must be ,,right??? I was going try Dr Harveys, but did not feel like ordering it on line and could not find it local. I have to say that my budgies do seem to like it, very little seed gets wasted. But, I don't use it too much as my budgies main food is sprouts, which they eat every day. Far as I'm concerned sprouts are " the best bird food in the world".

Yeah thats great seed mix. They preserve with orange oil instead of ethoxyquin. Plus I like that they warn the budgie owner that their birdseed alone is not a complete diet. you can't say that for other seed makers who talk of their seed being totally complete and balanced. So I give them props for that too.
