Unhappy Foaming at the Mouth?! (NO VET)

  1. Artemis Lives With 2 Other Male Budgies
  2. They Live in an Aviary (5'6''by 2'6'' base) (6'0'' tall)
  3. She's a Year Old
  4. Crusty Brown Cere at the Moment
  5. Never Ill Before

We can't go to the vet because our dad doesn't think a bird as small as a $30 budgie doesn't need it. I have a very different opinion but there is no way I can change his mind, seeing that I'm only 13.

I don't know if this problem is contagious, so I am taking the individual bird to a warmer room.

I'm afraid my bird may not eat or drink due to the foam coming out of her mouth and I'm afraid that's what's gonna kill her.. D'=

She keeps bobbing her head? I'm guessing it's an attempt to breathe properly. She's also very sneezy/coughy you know what I'm talking about? Makes them cute little twitchy noises that aren't very good?

Artemis was my first budgie ever and I'll miss her so much if she dies.. But I feel she might be dying already. :[

I'm sort of thinking it's some upper respiratory problem, but honestly I have no idea.

What else can I do? What are these symptoms of?

Maybe try ti rinse around her mouth to get rid
of the foam. You could gently syringe drops of water
at teh side of her beak. It may help wash it down or away.
Good luck

she needs an avian vet

the only think you can do, is keep her warm, quiet and in a peaceful place with water, seed and stalk of millet on the floor.

surely your dad can see your bird is foaming from the mouth and needs medical help

This little girl really needs a vet!! But I can see that is a problem. It sounds to me like either upper respiratory...like you said , maybe an pneumonia or the like. Maybe something caught in her mouth or throat or a poisoning...and for all of these things she would need a vet. ( these ideas are just a guess as I am not vet or even have much experience with bird illness) Sure hope you can change your Dad's mind. Maybe tell him it is not the cost of the animal it is the fact that if you take it and call it ours then we have the responsibility to keep it healthy and do all that we can for it...good luck.

Poor bird! I hope you can convince your dad that it NEEDS to see a vet.

My parents were the same way They couldn't believe I wanted to take a $20 bird to the vet. And avian vets are pretty expensive- we spent $100.

I'm like you with the whole different opinion thing. I don't think birds should be judged by their cost. Do you have other pets? I argued that, if we were going by cost, our $300 dog shouldn't have gotten all her shots, and my dad loves our dog. He couldn't say anything back to that.

Do you get an allowance? Maybe you could say you'll forgo that to pay for the vet bill. Or offer to do chores for a month. Surely your dad knows how much this bird means to you... maybe he just needs a little reminder?

I hope you're able to take him to the vet! He really doesn't sound good... Please keep us updated!

vet vet vet
like the others said.
Compare your little girl to a baby. Tell your parents this...

" Dad , if you were walking along the sidewalk and you seen a baby lieing in a bush with no one to claim her. You seen that she was beaten up and need medical treatment , would you rush her to the hospital or leave her there to die like your doing to my baby"

Always works

good luck

It's always tough making the decision about whether to take a budgie to the vet. It gets expensive pretty quick.
