Bringing the Budgie home.
Prepare the Cage with ; -Food -Water -Toys -Birdbath -Cuttlebone -Newspaper/Papertowel at the bottom of the cage.
If the Budgie is in a box, the easiest way to put the Budgie in the cage is putting the Box in the cage. Open a flap of the box and let the Budgie come out by itself, it will in due time.
Let the Budgie get used to it's new home, leave the bird in the cage for a day or two. But always interact with it outside of the cage, using calm noises. Try to keep the room the cage is in have calm noises for the Budgie's first days.
NOTE: It is normal for a budgie to be quiet and not interact with you a lot on it's first few days. Give them time to calm down and settle in!
Building Trust
To train the bird, you first have to build trust with it! Place your hand in the cage slowly, your Budgie will tend to fly around the cage in fear, thinking you are going to harm it.
Wait a while till the budgie gets used to your hand, and realize you are not trying to harm it. Practice this for a few days for a 20 minute session.
Once your budgie is used to your hand, put your hand close to the Budgie and stroke it softly. It might flinch a little, speak calm and soothing words to it.
Now stick out your finger as a perch, and slightly push up against your Budgie's chest. Your budgie may use it's beak to slightly bite your finger to test it, do not flinch or move away. Then, it should put a foot on, followed by another. When your Budgie hops onto your finger, say "up". It will soon recognize the command.
Slowly take your hand out of the cage, your Budgie might jump off and fly back into the cage before your hand is out. Keep trying for a day or two.
Next, bring your hand out of the cage. Your budgie's first instinct might be to fly free, make sure the room you are in has secured closed doors and windows. When your Budgie flies around the room, wait till it perches somewhere, and retrieve your budgie. Practice doing this for a few days, your Budgie will then trust you!
When you put your Budgie back in it's cage, say "Down" or some other similar command as it hops back onto a perch. Soon, your budgie may even learn to say down or act as you say it.
Thsnks for the insite I know sky flinches a little when i go to pet him but every day he gets better and when he gets out of the cage he will jump Back on and just liked to sit there outside of it Atleast i know this is ALL part of the training
