Question Peanut butter??

Hello you wise budgie lovers Have just read somewhere that its safe to feed peanut butter - is this true & is there any particular type eg. smooth, unsalted?

Also, my little guys hardly ever eat the fruit & veg I give them, I end up wasting so much despite trying all the preparation tricks. Is it ok to give them dried chopped herbs that you can buy in the supermarket? I know fresh would be best but I cant afford to keep spending money when they dont touch it.

Thanks for your advice.

I also read that it is safe to give them peanut butter. Just don't give them raw peanuts. I can't seem to get my little guy to eat fruits or veggies either. I was thinking of maybe taking the seeds out every now and then, and putting just fruit in his bowl, see if maybe he will eat it if he doesn't have a chioce between that and the seeds. I am not saying that I will starve him. lol. Just try it for an hour or so and see if it helps.

Peanut butter, as far as I know, is safe for budgies. Keep in mind that it is high in calories and fat so it is not something you would want to offer your sweeties frequently...

Thanks for the replies, I will maybe try covering some veggies in peanut butter to tempt them (sounds too good to resist!). I'll be sure to ration it lol, Im having trouble avoiding chocolate, dont want my little guys addicted to junk too!

Angelbuck please let us know if it works taking the seed away, had thought of trying it myself but Im sure they would throw a tantrum Good luck.

What did you mean when you said that you were having trouble avoiding chocolate? Did you mean yourself? Or the budgie? Because chocolate is very bad for your budgie, can kill him. I hope that's not what you ment. I may try to take the seeds out for a little while tomorrow afternoon, and see if I can get him to eat a grape. At least pick at it to see if he likes it. I won't take the seeds away for too long though, I don't want him to go hungry. I just think that if they have a choice between what's good for them, and what they like, they will chose what they like.

Peanut butter is fine for budgies but as someone said above is high in fat another thing is Budgies might not like it as they do not eat PEANUTS...so its better for bigger birds

No I meant myself! I eat far too much chocolate, would never give it to my budgies as I know its poisonous...plus I wouldn't share anyway, its ALL MINE

lol. O.K. just making sure. I love chocolate also. Any type of junk food really, chocolate, peanut butter. Try not to eat it too much. Even when I do buy it, the kids or my husband eat it all before I have a chance to really pig out on it.
