Last night, we noticed quills poking out beneath the two remaining tail feathers. I swear they grew. Half an inch overnight! Excuse the lame cell phone pic. I'm thinking that must be painful, though, right? It is growing so fast!
Congratulations Sunshine! She is going to be a beautiful lady with a lovely tail in no time! You're right thought -- that's a lot of feathers to be growing at one time. I don't know if it hurts or not, but it's got to take some real energy.

I've noticed he is a little moodier than usual. Even took a hunk of my nose with him a couple of days ago, that's the first time he's really bitten, but he was completely provoked by my 4 year old (who is the reason for the missing tail feathers). So, I'm thinking he's probably feeling it. Poor baby! I'm working hard on trying to make my son understand that he has GOT to calm down around our feathered companions! It's sinking in about as fast as anything else does! He's not mean to Sunshine, he's just constant energy in motion, and makes the poor baby so nervous. Even the tail feather incident was an accident. He was trying to catch him when he flew off his cage (as you can see, he's clipped). This kid wears me out and gets on my nerves! I can only imagine how he must make this tiny baby feel!
Wow! I don't think I've ever seen that many tail feathers growing in at one time before. Hope Sunshine is getting lots of healthy food to keep his energy up during the growth process.
I'm trying. He doesn't want broccoli, doesn't want parsley, and doesn't like his ZuPreem pellets. Seed and millet are all the booger will eat. I did just crush his pellets up in the blender and mixed a very small portion of seed into it, like no more than 10%. He was just at his bowl eating, amd I think he DID eat some of the pellet powder, but I also heard him popping seeds. I'm not adding any more seed to the mixture. I'm really having a hard time getting him interested in anything besides seed and millet. I don't give him millet often, only as an extra special treat. I have some spring greens growing in a raised bed outside, so I think I may clean some of that and put in his cage. But, I'm guessing he will probably shy away from that like he has everything else I have tried so far. Definitely open for suggestions, he's definitely napping a lot more than usual.
I a, going to get some carrots tomorrow. He's eating the seeds out of his owl, but hopefully he's getting pellet powder in the process. Hung a broccoli floret next I his perch, ur he won't go near it.
