If Peanut continues to deteriorate, the kindest thing you can do for him is to let him go, as hard as that may be.
I hate to see an animal suffer needlessly. If your vet has run out of options for treatment and feels that Peanut's prognosis is not good then I would help him move on to the the next stage in his journey...
No, it does not need to be 100% Braggs, but it does need to be 100% raw with mother...Don't go too nuts in trying to find it..I too had the same issue and finally hit..You may want to try a few health stores or maybe try their website and call to see what stores carry it in your area, just do a search for the Bragg(s) Company. Now, as for gagging..Liz is correct, that is a classic sign of Chlamydia, its also a sign of Trichomonas with Mega..Trich are worms better known as Canker..Now, I wish this Vet would have done a swab first before washing..SIGH! What is wrong with these Vets today, gets me so mad! A swab would have been GREAT! it would also help determine if peanut has mega in most cases...That said, when he gags, see if anything comes out and that its slimy...It would be hard to tell if he is regurgitating, but I doubt he would regurg just on his own unless he is in love with lets say a mirror or toy if you follow me..So, the next time he does this, look very well around his beak, above cere and of course the bottom of the cage for any signs of slimy seeds that he would have passed up...
As for the 48 hours? Mega can strike down a bird that fast, just depends how strong their immune system is and their overall Genes really..Some birds get mega and nothing happens, they turn into a carrier. I would do what your gonna do, have him tested, you need to be accurate on his diag and get him treated for the correct illness. Now, what about Echinacea Tea? This is good for so many reasons, it will also stimulate his appetite The mix is simple, make 1 cup of tea as you would for yourself, not too hot..I pop mine in the microwave for 2 minutes, mix the bag for about 2 minutes as well, dump it in a coke bottle then had 2 or 3 more cups depending if I think its too dark..The rule of thumb is 2 cups water to 1 cup Tea...serve as is...Also, if you do hit the tea isle, see if they have white tea with bio-3, that also rocks the immune system, its so good for these birds
Overall, it does seem he has a few things going on, poor baby!!! Man! I feel your pain and concern, trust me! Since losing Nia, I now have 4 birds that are fluffed, my other Hen Nala seems to be a bit weak, and 3 others have slight tailbob..I already hit Nala directly with some baytril and I have a Vitamin booster which she got a dosage as well..So, as a precaution, I'm going from Metronidazole to Doxycycline, to baytril, then ACV to give them a needed break, then onto green tea before bed to flush their system being it act as a pro-biotic and cleans their system while helping to balance the gut/flora again...I'm waiting on the Vet once again since they did not find anything in Nia, he has no idea how to treat my flock!!! can you believe this!!?? So, all I can do is take it on myself as I always have here in my little 3RD World..so, I know how you feel!!! '
That said, if any further time is wasted and your not feeling confident about those Avian Vets, change to another asap...It seems us as Budgie owners really need to educate some Vets about Mega, they just don't know enough about it or know what to look for...So, do yourself a favor, read all about canker, read all about Mega Bacteria, Trichomoniasis other name is Canker, and about Chlamydia...I have all of the info, but no links so I can't post it for you. Compile a symptom chart and quiz your Vets, ask any and all questions that you want, you paying the bill and that's your baby at risk!
Overall, I will help you more later tonight with some natural remidies for illnesses and see if I happen to have some links for the above..My computer crashed not so long ago, so I lost my Budgie folder and had to create another..RRRRRR, not so easy..

Anthony you are so knowledgable and helpful ! Peanuts dropping are completly normal and have been all along . He did have to visit the vets around 2 months ago where his droppings were very loose and he was put on a course of Baytril which sorted that problem quite quickly. Since then even throughout this illness he passes normal black and white droppings. I took some to the vet last week and they tested them and found nothing abnormal.
As to changing my vet , in my area there isn't any others. As I said before the one I go to now is a 32mile round trip.
I will make some phone calls today about the cider vinegar with the mother, I don't want to have to wait 'up to 9 days' for it to be delivered.
I will try your tea , I will give anything a try. Also I will look out for the FINISHED at the end of any further emails.
I have managed to locate a bottle of the Apple Cider Vinegar with the Mother. Peanut is hardly drinking but I understand that is they way of giving it to him or can we give it to him diluted in a dropper ?
I'd recommend that one if ordering online, pet stores supply formulas aswell.
All so can you supply information about the birds droppings as this is a vital sign sometimes to what is going on, for example a budgie with psittacosis will have more urine than normal this is called Polyuria (excess urine). The urine and the droppings will be either a yellowy, greyish or greeny colour.
Other symptoms are:
Diarrhea
sneezing
Being lathargic
Loss of movement in the legs, sometimes complete paralysis of the legs.
Weight loss, especially around chest area.
In this case the budgie urgently needs a course of Doxycycline for up to 45 days.
Sorry, I did not finish my post, fell asleep in my chair LOL, woke up at about 6 A.M but had to run out and just got back...Yes, you can certainly use an dropper...However, try to minimize his stress level if you know what I mean When Nia was going down, I gave her some just on my finger which she took easily..I'd say she took it about 30 times, so she was very thirsty..Anyway, I will post a lot more info soon...Also, since his droppings are fine, again, I am really leaning on Mega!! All other (so called) bacterias would most defiantly cause wet droppings! If you can probe his droppings, do so..Look for any color change and just see if there are any worms which a few are visible. I use an end of a cottonless Q-Tip..And Pick up some Echinacea Tea or anything Enchincia!! It will not only help in many ways, but it will stimulate his appetite as I mentioned before...I use Tea's.....Also, I too just picked up Lemongrass, its all natural and will help little Peanut...Keep in mind, these birds are very smart!! They will usually eat anything that is in the wild, and grasses they love along with sprouts...

I didn't take Peanut to the vets today, he seemed a tiny bit brighter today and I want to try the cider vinegar. I diluted it to one quarter of a teaspoon to 4oz of water and he had a little through a dropper , is that the right dillution ? I have also put the same in his water bottle . I have the tea so will give him some of that as well later on . He is off all his meds now that I got from the vets . I will check his droppings as you suggested.

I hope he will continue to improve, but you should run at least a CBC and maybe hold off on an X-Ray so you can be sure what is going on and if you need to continue with medications...I know, so many people think our birds are throw away birds, go get another..man! I cry more for these birds passing than I do for people..Why? People know in most cases if they will die from an illness..Birds or animals in general have no clue and don't understand whats happening to them. Then it seems they look at you as if they are asking for help or asking why do I feel like this, please help me, too sad..
Here is some info on ACV, will post more shortly..As for the dosage, Its hard to say without knowing the size of your water dish and/or bottle if you use one (coke bottle) I usually add 8 cc's to a 2 litre bottle..I also use 100 ML water dishes and some are 400ML..The 100ML dish I add about 4-6 drops (if in a hurry and don't have a mix) So, let me see what I have in my Budgie folder and will post what a few Vets recommend..
Some suggest using only 1 teaspoon to 1 Gal of water..That's 4ccs...1 Gal = 4 litres or 4 Qts, 1 cc to 1 litre water..mmm, seems very weak to me, but for a bird that is just beginning to take it, then you can always work your way up to a little more over time..I use 8 cc's to 1 litre water and my guys drink with gusto. perhaps ask your Vet should they have knowledge of ACV, see what dosage they suggest
