Default How much light in the Nestbox?

Hi everyone!
because of my hen who went out of condition, I had to removed the nest box but this week, it's been browning (her cere) so I poped the nestbox back in

I was wondering how much light should be in the nest box when I'm not inspecting it. Right now, mine is pitch black because I read that if there is light, hens will try to move the eggs to where there is not much light. But then again, if its so dark in there, how are they meant to see the eggs etc?

Thanks in advance!

The only light coming in is through the entrance hole of the nestbox. Maybe 3 or 4 tiny round holes on the top side for ventilation's sake. Believe me, the hen can see very well in pitch dark. Once there are eggs inside the nestbox, the hen is not scared at all about darkness and goes ahead inside to incubate the eggs.

I agree, they will be fine if it is dark Most hens like to get as far away as they can from the entrance hole of the box which is usually the darkest.
