Sunniebird is on a distinguished road
Default Hello all!

Just joined the forum after snooping a bit! I don't currently have a budgie but have been a bird fan since I owned a cockatiel as a kid. I'm here to do some research and learn as much as possible before starting this adventure! I have a 2 1/2 year old, very gentle and sensitive daughter who is already very interested in birds and a rambunctious cat. The main things I am trying to take into consideration right now are the logistics of having a bird and a cat and where I can feasibly get my budgie. If this all works out, I will have to keep the bird in our bedroom and keep the cat out, which wouldn't be an issue but something to consider. I would like to rescue a (preferably younger) budgie from someone who can't care for it anymore, but there doesn't seem to be many resources for bird rescues around me. I've been having trouble finding a breeder anywhere near me as well, which would be my second choice. We are vacationing in April and I want to wait until at least after that before we get one. I'm also in the process of finding an avian vet near me because I know that's important. Anyways, I've been reading stickies and old posts and really enjoying myself. Nice to meet all of you and I may have more questions in the future. Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi! to Talk Budgies

It's great you are taking the time to do the necessary research before bringing a budgie into your heart and home.

I located a couple possibilities of breeders near you.
However, I know nothing about these people so you'll need to do the required due diligence before determining if they are responsible and ethical breeders:

Cloud 9 Aviary Hopkinsville, KY
Amanda (270) 881-3891

Mt.Washington, KY
Megan (502) 693-6847

Just Birds
859-624-3928 or sue101n@juno.com

You can also contact
Budgerigar Association of America
and
The American Budgerigar Society
The American Budgerigar Society ? Your best source of information about keeping, breeding and exhibiting budgerigars.

to ask for referrals to breeders

If you have not yet done so, please take the time to read through the Site Guidelines, all of the How To Guides, the FAQs, the Budgie Articles and the stickies located at the top of each section of the forum.

You'll find most of your basic questions about budgies and caring for them will have been answered after you've read through all of them.

Thank you everyone! And thanks Faerybee for locating breeders for me! I'll start scoping them out. I'll need to find a thread about questions to ask breeders to make sure they are reputable so I'm prepared when I call.

Just wanted to update real quick. Hopefully it's ok to do it on this thread. I contacted all 3 numbers for breeders in my area with no such luck. Megan's number has a full mailbox so I may try that one again later. Cloud 9 aviary doesn't exist anymore and I called and emailed Just Birds and that one doesn't seem to be viable either. Just wanted everyone to know for the future! Thanks again for giving me a starting point. I'm trying to contact the BAA to see if they have recommendations for my area. Cute little birdies aviary is 5 ish hours away from me so if all else fails I may contact them. I'm having a ton of fun so far with this! I've fallen into the hole of genetics/mutations and I'm so intrigued!! So much info on this site!

CuteLittleBirdies website currently has no option for those wishing to ask about obtaining budgies to contact her.
Additionally, she hasn't listed any breeding pairs for several months now.

As all my budgies came from her aviary, I've tried contacting her through multiple methods but have received no response to my messages.

If you do manage to contact her and she answers you, please let me know via Private Message. Thanks!
