Default Can someone give me some advice about my budgie and the tv

Hello

My budgie is developing a behaviour that is becoming frustrating for us. Everytime the tv is on she will chirp, and it isnt just a normal chirp, it is that high pithed 'straight through your ears' chirping, she gets plentyl of attention, shes with us all day whenever someone is home and she is out of her cage whenever she wants it but just lately when we put the tv on she starts shouting and the louder we turn it up the louder she gets. its got to the point where we cant watch tv anymore unless its really low so we cant hear it or we watch things on the laptop through a headset. she isnt like this with radios or people talking, just the tv. its becoming frustrating. Could anyone offer advice on why this has started and how to stop it?

thanks

Budgies to tend to 'compete' with loud noises, so if you keep turning the sound up, as you've found out, she'll just get louder.

When you watch TV is she in her cage at the time? I would suspect it might be that she's wanting your attention from the TV. Maybe you could try letting her out and spending time with you while the TV is on.

If the TV is something she is reacting to and not the radio, it must be because you're doing something different when the Tv is on compared to the radio being on, if that makes sense. Because the TV is more absorbing, she must notice the difference in your behaviour and wants to remind you she's there as well.

I would try and include her in TV time, even if it' during the day and something you don't want to watch, have it on instead of the radio and interact with her and fuss over her while it's on, so she doesn't associate it with something to compete with.

One thing, aside from what Therm has said you might.....
see if you adjust the levels of treble and bass on your tv. I've found that budgies seem to be more noisy when there's more treble in the sound as opposed to bass. If you can lower the treble and up the bass and see if, when keeping the volume the same and adjusting treble and bass, there is a difference in her chirp. Experiment.
