Sorry I have been so quiet on here lately. Real life got away from me a bit! We have been preparing for our budgie arrivals, the cage is all set up and the room prepared.
I've just started to get my head around seed mixes and pellets (we will obviously be complementing their diet with fresh fruit and veggies). However, a quick look around the forums didn't flag up any recommended brands of seed mix or pellets that are readily available in the UK.
(I could be wrong, trying to search anything while a kid who is high on Easter Holiday freedom is a bit challenging, in which case I apologise =D)
Can anyone recommend any seed mixes etc. I can get in the UK that are good quality, or am I really better off getting them loose and mixing them myself (and if so, any recommended stockists?)
I love their stuff. Once you get your first order of their beautiful fresh seed (and the smell is divine!) you'll never go back to anything less.
I love that they have a description for what each type if best for as well.
*Nods* It looks great! I had a long talk with my vet about budgie care and she emphasised the importance of good nutrition for their life span. We went into a big long discussion about what kinds of seed were best, and the pros and cons of pellet feeding, as well as what fruits and veggies they might like to try.
She also said she found that not allowing the birds to graze buffet style on the food, but having designated meal times not only kept them in better shape but meant they were more engaged with their food, easier to train and more likely to explore new dietary options as and when they were introduced.
She gave me a lot of food for thought (no pun intended) and I was determined to find a good seed mix! Now I feel very triumphant that I've managed it!
