A few days ago we brought home a BEAUTIFUL lutino budgie to be friends with our sky blue recessive pied budgie.
You guys, he's PERFECT. We have him in quarantine right now of course. I watched all the budgies for a while and he (hopefully a he) was so sweet. Any time a budgie stepped on his tail or got in the way he just moved. That carried on all the way home where before I could let him settle in I had to remove his leg band. Our first bird got his caught on the door hooks of the cage. If I hadn't been standing right there he may have died. It really freaked me out and that's how I figured out how to remove an open band! He was very scared but didn't bite at all. Now that he's been settled in for a few days he's already asking to come out and already steps up. He's the most perfect yellow baby. We named him Jax and I'm already in love with the little cutie.
On to the diet part.
This little bird has over 40 ingredients on his plate. He has a mixture of over 18 different sprouts, a mixture of over 18 different herbs and spices, and a mixture of 6 or 7 veggies and a quarter of a grape! (I'm mean. My birds get 90 percent veggies and only 10 percent fruit.) He has a feast!! And he's just throwing it off the plate looking for millet. We decided that since it usually takes a bit for a new scared budgie to start eating anyway, we'd just give him the proper diet from day one.
This bird is so perfect that the first day we had him he tried the sprouts on his plate. What budgie does that! Anyway it's all reluctant now. He's such a brat. But he has such a huge appetite that I'm not concerned about him getting enough to eat. When he's hungry enough he's eating and when he's not he's just throwing the food at me.
I just wanted to share my new family member with you guys. I get excited about these things but a lot of the people in my life just don't get it. I'm glad I have a place where talking about budgies doesn't annoy anyone!
