Default Questions for single-budgie owners

Hey! I'm new here and I've been thinking of buying a budgie. I have a ton of questions so I'll just list them here. Thanks in advance!

What made you get only one budgie?
Is your budgie tame?
Have you bonded with him/her?
What kind of job do you have (how many hours do you work in a day)?
How long is your budgie alone in a day?
How much time do you spend with your budgie?
What do you do with him/her?
How much out-of-cage time does your budgie get in a day?
What sized cage does your budgie have?
Where do you keep the cage?
Who takes care of your budgie when you're away?
What is the longest time your budgie has been alone?
Is your budgie happy?

Also, does this seem like a good cage for a budgie?

Hi! to Talk Budgies

The bar spacing on the cage you linked is too wide.
For a budgie, the spacing between the bars should never exceed 1/2"
(1.27 cm)

Hi Emmi and to the forums!

It's great to have you on the forums and you've been given great advice and resources so far!

It's great to hear you're doing plenty of research before getting a budgie! Keep us posted on how things go

I have a single budgie girl and she is thriving as a solo budgie! I'll answer your questions below

What made you get only one budgie?

I just had the space and resources for one budgie. Additionally, I wanted a companion bird and knew I would dedicate my time to spending time with her.

Is your budgie tame?

Yes, very! She's a sweetheart, but can get up to mischief Her favourite activities are flying around the house and dive bombing people, climbing up my hands like "stairs", and flying to me on command.

Have you bonded with him/her?

For sure! She understands me perfectly and I understand her. We truly have a connection that has been built on love and trust for almost five years.

What kind of job do you have (how many hours do you work in a day)?

I'm a full time student, and work all day on Saturdays. That's about 7 hours a day Monday-Saturday. However, the rest of my time I spend with her (in the same room with her). Also, that works because there are other people in the house to keep her company throughout the day.

How long is your budgie alone in a day?

Alone with nobody in the house I would say 2-3 hours a day at most, unless we go on a drive to the mountains all day and come back at night or something (which isn't common). When we are gone, we are sure to leave the radio on for her so she has some noise to chirp to.

How much time do you spend with your budgie?

Daily, I would say about 2-3 hours. Some of it is me sitting with her as I do work and some is actually taking her out of the cage so she can play and fly around.

What do you do with him/her?

I talk to her a lot, we play "games", like recall flying, jumping from hand to hand, beak tapping (I gently tap her beak and she taps back), etc. I also just sit with her and listen to music. She loves that.

How much out-of-cage time does your budgie get in a day?

At least an hour every day. More on the weekends.

What sized cage does your budgie have?

She actually has the cage linked above! It's a great cage and I would recommend it for one budgie; it is a great size and allows room to spread wings inside.

Where do you keep the cage?

It's on a table in the living room! Away from drafts and doors.

Who takes care of your budgie when you're away?

We have a friend who has had budgies before and now has a parrot and when we go on vacations she watches her.

What is the longest time your budgie has been alone?

She has been alone for two days and one night before. This is the maximum time anyone should leave their bird alone; she had plenty of food (not just in dishes, in case she spilled them) and several water bottles so she would always have clean water. Also, we left the radio on the whole time and put the lamps near her cage on a timer so she wouldn't be in the dark all the time.

Is your budgie happy?

Heavens, I doubt she could be any happier! She's a very, very cheerful bird, and chirps gaily all the time. She is always active and excited about life, in general. Of course, all birds have different personalities but she definitely shows her happiness through her actions.

I hope that answered all your questions!

After read through all the links provided, be sure to ask if you have any questions as we'd love to help

I look forward to seeing you around the forums!

Cheers!

Hi. There I have a single budgie he is very happy. He has bonded with me cause I wanted him to talk. If he had a mate he would of bonded with her or him plus he wouldn't of talked with a bird friend. My budgie says so many different things. He is out of the cage all of the time playing with me he loves the company. He thinks he is a human he puts the word yes in the right place every time to a question... I love my budgie very much. He is so happy and spoilt.
