Hey everyone. Just right now I rescued this poor little girl. She was left outside in a tiny awful cage in really really cold temperatures. Her cage was rusted and she was forced to perch on a metal bar. I feel so bad for her. I don't have money currently to take her to a vet but I wanted to rescue her from that awful environment and give a much better happy home. I will post updates of how she's doing. This is the way she was living.
Hello everyone. So here's an update on my rescued girl. She's doing good so far. She's eating and flying around inside her cage and exploring it. She is eating a lot, and I mean like every 5 minutes. I'm not sure if she was never fed much with her previous owners but she's always at her food bowl eating. The second thing she's doing is climbing into her food bowl and kicking out all the food. I don't mind the mess just don't want her to end up starving if she kicks all her food out. Also she is currently being quarantined in my room. My other birds are in a different room but she can hear them chirping and screaming having fun. She chirps back to them. Will this cause her any stress and make things hard on her?
You can try a different type food bowl to prevent her from going into the bowl and kicking the seed out.
As she is female, it is best not to have a bowl she can sit in anyway as she may decide later on to use it as a nesting site.
I am feeding her the same food I feed my parakeets. Dr Harveys best parakeet food and harisons high potency mash mixed in with the dr harveys. Her cere is currently brown so you think she may be trying to nest? I'll have to order a differen't food bowl then. Her water bowl is the same type as her food bowl. A stainless steel bowl. Should I change that as well?
