Hi all,

I know the automatic answer to this is 'none', but sometimes it cannot be avoided.
We are having major wildfires here in Arizona. The closest one to me is about 20
miles away, has currently consumed 3,600 acres and is less than 50% controlled.
I don't think it's coming here, but the smoke and ash is definitely making it over
here. If I close the windows, we bake. If I open them, there is a distinct smell
of smoke.

I made it through some very close and scary wildfires in Florida, and we all survived,
but I didn't have tiny birds then. No one is showing any signs of stress yet, except
for me, and that's just leftover scairds from before. Any idea on how to deal with
this, or when to panic?

Thanks

My country's political situation isn't good...they held a strike all day today and I was supposed to attend an exam, which was postponed in the evening.

During these strikes people who go out risk getting burned alive.

My exam was going to be held quite far away from home so I left yesterday to stay over at my aunt's place who lives there. Before I left I gave the birds food and water. It's so hot here, so I left the ceiling fan on for Winter and Emmett and Autumn.

Sky and Vanilla were in a different room.

I got home today after around 25 hours, and checked up on Winter and Emmett and Autumn. They looked fine.

Then I saw a shocking scene. Vanilla was lying inside my room right next to my door! She looked like she'd die any moment. I didn;t know how that happened, I lifted her up and she could barely stand. She perched on my finger and I noticed she bled a lot through her nose and she was lighter than she was a day ago. Her vent held a huge pile of hard poop.

I rushed her to the bathroom to clean her up. She just got weaker.

Then I wondered about Sky,since vanilla was out of the cage...my brother yelled from their room to say that Sky was missing. I left Vanilla in the bathroom to look for Sky, he wasn't in their room, nor in mine.

I rushed to my brother's room which is quite far away from Sky and Vanilla's room, and the lights were out. I called out to him and he replied to me with a chirp. I turned on the light and my brother noticed him sitting on the curtain rod. I put him back in his cage. Then I went to help Vanilla...but she was already gone.

It felt like she stayed alive so that I could see her alive for the last time. She probably hit the ceiling fan or perhaps died due to her illness, but she was a lot healthier than Sky.

I noticed her nostrils were both blocked and there was a strip of bloodstain originating from a nostril to her head like a scar.

I washed her, and dug out a grave for her on the terrace where my uncle grows some plants. I told her what a pretty bird she was, thanked her for everything, and said goodbye.

Sky is lonely now...it was such an unfortunate event.

I don't know how they managed to open the cage door. They've never done this before.

My name is Amber! I recently acquired my very first pet budgie, however I am not entirely new to the bird world as I used to breed cockatiels. My budgie is a classic sky blue hen names Tutu , with no special mutations to speak of (unless super cuteness is considered a mutation) . I intend on breeding her eventually after I transition her to a better diet (the pet store she came from promoted a poor seed diet). Tutu is an "american" budgie...I honestly prefer the american budgies over the English type, I really like their petite sleek stature.

Thank you for helping me become the best budgie owner possible!

I feel like I need to because people just don't seems to do any research on Budgies before they get them...
