Made another wooden perch to replace his plastic one,its lovely wood since its so slow growing, this little perch is over 10 years old (10 rings) which is rather surprising but it also means its very hard and difficult for birds to rip apart.
Finished up the last of my perches to replace the plastic ones, tried to make them interesting shapes to make his feet nice and strong, he still has a good 6 normal non weird shaped perches so it gives him a nice variety.
I cant stop making perches now....made another one for Dicky today and he seems to love it.
I have noticed he spends a lot more time on the uneven perches I make and I think its due to increased grip, when he used to snooze on the plastic perches his feet would slide out making him do the splits and he kept having to move his feet back in. Hes a slouch sleeper, he goes really low and balances on both feet. My last 2 budgies were 1 foot sleepers so this wasn't a problem.
Im popping out to the apple tree again tomorrow to see if there are any interesting shaped branches I can grab, I like the idea of making his entire cage wooden and varied in size.
