Hi to all my fellow Talk Budgies Forum members. I'm new here on this platform but I'm very excited to meet great Budgie lovers from around the globe and share my experiences about Budgies with everyone. And here's my first post on this forum.

I have about 6 Parakeets and from the past couple of days I've noticed that one of my little Budgie is loosing feathers from the top of his head and he seems to be so tired and sleepy... He wasn't like that, yes he's always been less active than my other Budgies but not like this and now seeing him loose his feather (as seen in the picture) worries me... But please note that he's still eating good with his other mates in the cage... Is this a normal thing between Parakeets or is it a part of molting? Is there something to be worried about, it this some kind of sickness? Please help me... ?

Welcome to the forums,

I see the missing feathers and if your budgie hasn't been attacked by one of the cagemates (if so then immediate separation of the aggressive budgie must be done), then most likely your budgie is going through a rather heavier moult.
For detailed information, you can check this link: http://talkbudgies.com/articles-gene...e-molting.html

In the photo, it seems your budgie has the eye closed.
Does the eye area look normal? It may the angle, but to me the area seems a bit swollen and if that is the case then your budgie could have some kind of eye infection and he will need to be examined by an avian/exotics vet or a regular vet experienced in treating birds.

For overall hygiene and health reasons, it's best to not place food and water containers at the bottom of the cage and to get proper food and water containers to attach into the cage's bars.
Getting a proper seed mix for budgies would also be good, if at this point in time you are only offering sunflower seeds which aren't adequate to feed budgies in large quantities: Quality Seed Mix

Hi! to Talk Budgies

As aluz mentioned your budgie's eye looks swollen. My first thought in seeing the pictures is that he does not look well.
I would highly recommend you take him to an Avian or Exotic Vet for a proper diagnosis.
If neither vet listed is near you, then I would suggest you call and ask for a referral.

I agree with the previous posts. When I saw the pictures, the little guy doesn't look healthy. A check-up is definitely needed.

Hi there and to the forums!

Your budgies are very sweet; however I agree that the one pictured doesn't look to well and would benefit from a check up at an avian vet

FaeryBee and aluz have given great resources and advice, so be sure to read through the links posted as they will be of great help in staying updated on the very best of budgie care practices!

If you have any questions afterwards, don't hesitate to ask as we'd love to help.

I hope your budgie is feeling better soon! Keep us posted on how things go.

Best wishes!
