Default Gravel, grit question!

I have had this box of "budgie gravel" for a long while now. It says

Budgie Gravel with oyster shells and flaked charcoal...is this okay for budgies? It is very fine, sand like.

http://www.lotsofpets.com/b2292.html

If its okay, how much should I provide and how often?

I used to feed it to my budgies, but they were starting to eat it like candy, so I stopped. Not sure if this is the soluable or insoluable kind either. If you do feed it, use it in very small quantities.

No it is not good for budgies... they cannot digest the sand particles and can become impacted.. I use pure oyster shell for a calcium supplement and it is 100% digestible.

I simply mix my crushed oyster shell with the seed and they take what they want out of it. Because it's soluble they get the calcium goodness out of it.
