Default Mint Leaves?

My garden is over run with mint plants, does anyone know if budgies can eat mint leaves?

I haven't seen them listed on various websites I've been searching.

Thanks in advance!

From what I have read, yes, budgies can eat mint leaves!

Mint leaves are herbs, and most herbs are good for budgies. Mint leaves are one of them, so I'm going to say yes, mint leaves are ok

Thanks for your input!

I guess I'll stick around and wait to see if I can get a few more confirmations first, though!

Gosh, good question - I never thought of it as I have several different kinds of mint plants growing outside. My only concern would be the volatile oils. I've spent the last few minutes searching, and I cannot find a reference to mint being on either the safe or the dangerous list. Onions are natural, and I know that due to their oils they are not safe (such as chives for example), can build up and cause liver problems. I'd love to see it listed on a site somewhere so we could know for sure.

I know, right? I couldn't find it listed anywhere!

You bring up a good point about the oils.

Hmmmm....... anyone else know?

Update: Found this website/pdf which indicates peppermint is ok:

http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sourc...NERrSYR0XFN5Uw

This website also shows peppermint as a safe aviary plant, with the disclaimer that any plant can harm a bird if they consume large quantities:

Spearmint is also listed as non-toxic on this site:

Good find, Robin!

Now the question is: Are they safe in the sense that if they are around the house and your budgie happens to take a few bites, it would be okay? Or in the sense that you should purposefully feed it to your budgie?
