Definitely looks like a female to me. It's unfortunate but pet shops, especially ones that don't specialise in birds, can often be unreliable sources of information when it comes to the animals they sell.

Many thanks all! I was leaning towards hen because she bites so much, I tried to buy a hen as our latest one had died and Marvin was distressed so picked carefully from the selection of all 'males' to try and find one that I thought may be female ? Mavis she shall remain unless that cere turns blue! ?

Hi! to Talk Budgies

Your little albino is without a doubt a female.
Her cere will turn a tannish/brown color and become crusty when she is in condition.

Please read the information in this link --
Budgie gender really cannot be accurately determined by a bird's behavior.

Common Myths about Female Budgies

I hope you followed the proper quarantine procedures before introducing her to Marvin?

Quarantine means housing your new bird in a different cage in a different room as far away as possible from the room where your current bird(s) are housed for a period of 30-45 days.
Budgies mask symptoms when they are ill. Symptoms may not show up for over two weeks.
Often you will not even realize your bird is not well. Many budgie illnesses are airborne which is why you need to quarantine your new bird in a completely different room.

It is also a good idea to always take a new budgie in to see an Avian Vet for a "well-birdie" check-up. This allows you to develop a good relationship with the vet and the vet can establish a baseline for your bird in case of any future illnesses or injuries.

As you now have both a male and a female, it is very important you do everything necessary to discourage breeding:

Thank you all but I actually only came to this forum to seek knowledgeable opinions on the sex of my bird!

I had read information online that white budgies can be difficult to sex so I just wanted clarification from others as I was leaning towards hen myself.

I have kept budgies for many years and am well aware of how to care for them, introduce new birds etc... I wasn't asking for opinions on breeding but I appreciate your concerns.

My beloved old hen died a few months ago and left a big hole in my heart.
I can never replace her as she had such a huge personality, but was very much hoping that Mavis is female as I have always found the females much more endearing in my experience with budgies.
Most importantly my lovely Marvin is besotted with her. They have separate cages but fly freely between each other's.

So thank you for opinions on the sex of Mavis!

Enjoy your little feathered friends.

Thanks
