Starlings Wings well we have decided to call Rocky, Rocky and Roxie as a nick name. I am still getting used to saying "Good girl" instead of "Good boy". I am explaining to my boys (7 and 3years) that there brother is actually there sister. Ha ha Feary Bee thank you for all of the links you have posted, they are very helpful. I think maybe little Roxie is happy churping away instead of chattering. x

Yeah, bparakeet. We do like the name Roxie and she is not fussed being called Roxie and Rocky.

I was hoping you could all help me again with regards to gender. I treated my Mum to a little budgie friend for her Birthday. Today, I also got her friend a little budgie. (We have a budgie club going) Everyone in my family wants a budgie now. Ha ha Can you give me an ideal on gender and possible age of both budgies please?

Also Mum is finding it difficult to hand tame her 'tweety mac' she can't stand my his cage for long as she has mobility difficulties. I suggested buying a small cage she can sit on her knee to chat to him and try putting her hand inside the cage while resting her arm on the perch. What do you all think?

Thank you in advance.

Sorry, one more question the ring on their ankle, remind me. Does the breeder put them on to identfy their age?

Did you get these latest two budgies together from the same pet store?
If not then the latest arrival needs to be quarantined in a separate cage and room away from Rocky/Roxie and the budgie you got for your mother's birthday.
Quarantine IS Necessary!

The green budgie is a male while the blue one is a female. They are both fairly young, I would say the green budgie is slightly younger at about 4 and a half months old and the blue one is about 5 months old.

Can't your mother sit on a chair while having the cage on a table or stand and work on connecting and bonding with the budgie that way?

By having a small cage on the lap, this could stress the budgie out due to the very close proximity, not to mention that the cage will not be placed on a secure position and the chances for it to wobble are much higher.
During the training process, it's important to provide a safe, stable and stress free environment for the budgie.

Regarding the leg bands, they can be used to identify the breeder (by their initials) as well as the individual bird in case of an escape.
If a date is provided on the leg band, then a person can also tell the year the budgie has hatched.

Dear, SparraAnkles

I am disabled and there are days (even weeks or months) when I cannot walk and/or stand. Therefore, I/ve put one cage next and one behind and up to sofa where I sit/work/sleep in those hard days. That way I can always reach my birds and talk/play with them. You/ve bought wonderful present to your mother! I have great time with my birds and with them I am never lonely even when my people flock is out for a whole day!

Hi Aluz

Once again thank you for your response. I got the budgies from the same shop but it is 6 weeks apart. They will be in two sperate houses and in two separate cages. Although last night they were in the same house for two hours. Could they possibly become ill now? I never realised I had to quarintine as I have alway only ever had a solo budgie. Is there anything I can do to prevent possible illness? I feel so silly now. The blue one 'Tweety Mac' that is Mum's budgie so I will pass on to her the gender and age and also the same for Mum's friends bugie, thank you. The pet shop said both were male and around 8 weeks although they did say they can't guarentte gender.

Yes she has a small table at the side of her chair that she can put tweety on to make it more stable and safe.

Thank you for taking the time to get back to me, I am guessing you are busy on the forum.

Hi JotaMI

Thank you for your response. Aw I am so pleased to hear your birds give you companionship, they are lovely pets. How many feathered friends do you have? We have the big cage at one side of the room and will try and settle Tweety in the second cage too and for similar reasons. As Aluz suggested we will put the cage at the side of Mums chair where it is still close to her.
