Default Age / Gender (2 pied parakeets)

We've had our 2 English budgies since last fall and I've been wanting to get them a couple companions. I was at a pet store getting supplies and stopped to look at their parakeets. My husband saw me checking them out and suggested that we get a couple to go with our budgies. Because they had some that looked younger, I decided to give it a go. They are now in quarantine and have been treated for mites (just in case). They both look dominant pied to me, one sky blue, the other light green, but I have no clue on sexing the pair. We still plan on getting another pair of budgies from a breeder later this year, so we can even out the gender ratio if needed (our current budgies are a m/f pair). These guys will be in quarantine for at least 2 months before being introduced... and I'll probably treat them with a wormer just in case too.

Any thoughts on gender / age? I will try to get better pics, once they settle in. Their tail feathers were shorter than the other parakeets at the store, which made me think younger (along with their darker eyes). Pics were taken without flash in a room with a lot of natural light. Note..I think the last photo (of the sky blue) was taken with the incandescent ceiling light on in the room also.

Thanks for your help!

From the pics they both look very much like girls to me.
The blue one I'd say is slightly younger and fresh from turning 3 months old. Your green one is about 3 and a half months old.
They're beautiful, congratulations!

From the current pictures posted, they both look to be female to me.
I'm seeing more of a whitish/tan cere on each of them as opposed to the translucent pinkish/purple that would be present if they were male.

Both of your new additions are adorable!!

Definitely looks like 2 young females to me. Probably under five months judging the barring on the heads down to the cere and the dark eyes. Although you might have to wait a little to see how their ceres change, they don't seem purplish at all, indicating they may be female. Especially the bluish bird with the white on top. You might as well wait it out. You never know!

Thanks for your help guys! I was hoping that they were young. I want to try to work with them and tame them a bit... My current two budgies were adults when we got them and aviary raised, so not very tame. They tolerate me feeding them now, but that's about it lol.

With these two, I had to catch them and hold them to apply the mite treatment (to the back of their necks). The blue one was calm during this process...The green, not so much.. She may be a little hellion lol. She was biting me the whole time. They are also SO tiny compared to the budgies. I just hope they are healthy and do OK. The store clipped their wings, but I've added plenty of perches, climbing ladders, ropes, etc. to their cage and put food at ground level for now.

I will try to get full body pics for you guys tomorrow.. I want them to settle in for the rest of the day. They are upstairs in our guest bedroom as far away from our other birds as possible.
