Default What do you think the gender and age is?

New Year's Day, this budgie showed up in my back yard. It has to be someone's pet that got out. I have posted some pictures on a local social media site (nextdoor) in hopes that someone will recognize it and we can make someone very happy.

In the event that we don't have anyone respond, we will keep it. My daughters have already named it "Lucky". The name fits considering that we had a very cold night that night and we have 4 cats that were lounging 20 feet away from where the bird landed.

If we keep it, would anyone give me their opinion on the age and gender? Here is a photo:

Thanks in advance for the help.

Hi! to Talk Budgies

It appears the photo was taken with a flash which washes out the color of the cere.
If the budgie's cere is the color which it appears in the picture (light-whitish blue) then you definitely have a beautiful adult female. Giving you an exact age isn't possible her iris rings indicate she is an adult bird.

I hope you will be able to find the owners of this lovely little girl.
If not, and you decide to keep her, please be sure to ensure her cage is in a room where your cats will have no access whatsoever.

Thanks for the quick reply. The cere is a light beige/blue color. It is very friendly.

I am hoping that someone replies as well. Especially if it is an adult and they have hade it for a while. If not, should we get a second one to keep it company?

Regarding the cats, they are permanently outside. They have a heated and cooled house so that we don't have them inside.

Definitely a beautiful female!

I would not get another budgie as company for this little girl (if no one claims her) until you've had her for at least 6 months. It's important to get to know her and her personality first. Some budgies are quite happy being solitary birds and love interacting with their human flock.

How much time per day on average will someone in your family be able to interact with her?
