Default Homemade Climbing Net?

I was wondering what you guys thought about knitting/crocheting a climbing net for your budgie? I am an avid knitter and a brand new budgie parent.

I already know that yarn/string should always be tucked away and kept to a minimum to avoid tangling, but what if I made a granny square net and hung it on the side of the cage? I would love suggestions or warnings on this.

Thanks!

There are some concerns about your idea. Budgies have small and fragile feet/toes and the toenails can easily get caught on the fabric while the budgie is in the process of climbing the net.
Budgies also love to chew in general and if they happen to chew on the material, the chances for them to ingest fibres causing them to later on develop digestive issues are higher too.

For suggestions on home-made toys, you can check this section of the forums: http://talkbudgies.com/45-do-yourself/

These are some things I figured, which is why I wanted to ask. Is there concern with store bought nets also?

That would mainly depend on the material from which the nets are made.

Dear carmenluigina, I am a crocheter and I perfectly understand you. I wish so much to make something for my babies. I am thinking about wire crocheting, just need to find pure Al wire.
Would that be safe?

I also wonder if you could use raffia because foraging toys use raffia. It definitely doesn't need to be yarn 😊

Raffia, Hemp or Sisal can be used to make the climbing nets.
