Hi BuddBudd,

Your budgies are so cute!

As for what they're eating, it's best to stick to seeds, fruits and vegetables. Chocolate is poisonous to budgies, and the high salt and sugar content in Doritos, lays and mints is not very good for their little hearts.

Remember, just because they eat it doesn't mean it's good for them <3
Best of luck with your new budgies!

Hi there!

Kyrion has brought up something that is very important.

Please be sure to read through the links provided above by FaeryBee concerning a healthy diet for budgies right away!

It is never okay to feed budgies any processed human foods due to high levels of fat, salt, sugar, and preservatives that can kill them quite easily. Chocolate is toxic to budgies, in addition to that.

You may not think much of it now, as they "seem fine", but the toxic compounds will build up in their liver and cells, and due to their small bodies they will sicken quickly.

Please, please, do not feed your budgies any more junk food! They need to have a balanced diet of seeds, veggies, and pellets every day.

Again, the links provided by FaeryBee will be of great help!

The foods you indicate you are feeding your budgies are not only unhealthy, chocolate is toxic to your birds.

In fact, with the exception of "nuts", everything you listed
"Oreo, Doritos, Lays, nuts, and mints" are "junk" food and not among the best foods for human consumption.

The purpose of this forum is to promote the best practices for the health and well-being of budgies.
Members are expected to follow best practices if they wish to be a part of this community.

Actions such as what you have described are not in accordance with what this forum considers to be "Best Practices" for the health and well-being of your birds.

I strongly urge you to reconsider what you are doing and become a more responsible pet owner.

Your budgie is super cute!
However, going along with others have said, please please do not feed your budgie the doritos, Oreos, or any processed "human food". They need a diet of pellets, fruits, veggies and seed in order to thrive.

Your budgies are very pretty and I assume you want to give them the best possible care.

It appears the cage where you are housing them is too small for two birds.
The very minimum recommended size cage for two budgies would be 30" long x 18" wide by 18" high.

Additionally, plastic perches and wooden dowels are not recommended as they can cause pressure sores on your birds feet.

Pressure Sores

Natural wood perches of varying diameters are much healthier for your budgies' feet and legs.

Please take the time to read the Budgie Articles as well as the stickies posted at the top of each forum section.
This will allow you to learn to give your budgies the best possible care for their optimum health and well being.
