He is so cute! I've never seen a budgie of that color before! I also call my birds "little chickens"

It sounds like you're making great progress--you're absolutely right, it's a marathon, not a sprint
Thanks StarlingWings. : ) ... He's excited about something. Perhaps it's that he thinks I'm going to let him out of his cage and he's getting ready for that.

Today I was gone and I returned... said hello and he was "barking" at me. Barking at me while in skinny mode. ....Is this barking normal? I spoke nicely and ignored the barking. Now he is chirping and bobbing his head. ... I'm trying to understand what that "barking" is all about. ( I don't mind it per se... I just don't understand it exactly. ) And I don't have a dog that he's mimicking.

Thanks Colibri (which I know that means "hummingbird" .... his color is part of the reason I've selected him.... I don't think I'd seen that previously either. As well, his personality seemed friendly. I was looking at a mostly white & blue pied... but this blue guy turned out to be the one. : )

It looks like you have a bright yellow bird... ? I really like those too.

We have 6. Two of them are bright yellow! Hopefully I'll get a thread going soon for them, although I'm embarrassed about my sub par photography skills after seeing everyone else's gorgeous photos! Haha! Your little guy looks so sweet!

If the noise you're talking about is the "ack ack" budgie shout, then chances are he's trying to get your attention Budgies do this to show anger or excitement, for the same reason we scream. Because this call is coupled with him bobbing his head and chirping, it means he's excited to see you

Ignoring his calling is a good step; if you went over every time you heard him, it would train him to do it more often.

Thanks. Yes... it's the "ack ack" shout... & so far he is responding well to me ignoring it. He is starting to learn it doesn't do anything.

He's beautiful, he reminds me of a bird I had as a kid, named Frosty.
