Default Therm's Flock 2 (On-Going Thread)

I'm going to get off to a bad start with this new thread because my SD card for my camera has been playing up and so I had to use my phone.

Jimmy has spent all day with Star and Skye and they all came out for a little socialising.

Jake & Josie are supposed to be ready for bed but they don't look so tired to me!

New baby Sadie has been a delightful little girl and full of energy- until she needs a power nap!
Here she is using her swing

Look at that face!

Don't pretend to be camera shy!

And if anyone wants it, here's a link to Part One of my flock pictures.

Tomorrow will be Jay & Sage and Jake & Josie's turn to come out so expect some pictures of them and maybe more of the new baby!

I love the picture of Jimmy with Skye and Star.
Jake and Josie are just as cute as ever and baby Sadie has already stolen my heart.

Jimmy spent yesterday with Skye and Star. Today I let him out and he was socialising with Jay & Sage.

First Jay came to sit with him.

Then Jake and Sage stopped by.

Jake soon left but Sage stayed put!

Jake keeps an eye on them while Sage gets some beauty sleep

Apparently Sage shrinks when she sleeps.

Also, we made another decision.

Originally, we got Sadie as a new bird and would add a new friend for her that was also a youngster.
We discussed her becoming Jimmy's new cage friend, if they accepted one another, but from the short time I've had Sadie, I think her personality might be a little more assertive than Jimmy would like.
Sunny was a very gentle bird and fit with Jimmy's passive personality perfectly. While Jimmy is doing well with the other birds to socialise with, he clearly misses her and having bird friends is helping, but it's not the same as his own mate.

I keep thinking back to when we had Jimmy on his own and he was so sad without a budgie friend.
Considering the quarantine period, we decided to go ahead and purchase a new female budgie.

We spent a long time mulling this over as there are some factors that we had to weigh into this. Firstly, quarantine space. The downstairs of the house is mostly open plan, except the conservatory but currently we can't keep a bird in there. Sadie is in the only spare room meaning we can't keep another bird in the house.
My friend, in a pet free, no kid, no smoking responsible house has agreed to keep the bird for me during quarantine.

Secondly, we decided to get a female that isn't a baby, like Sadie. This was the tough part as I spent ages looking at the birds and finding a girl who seemed to have a gentle personality (it's never easy in pet shops).
I spent a bit of time with her while she was settling in and she seems to have a good nature to her, is curious and looking fit, if not a little shabby.
Her beak however is a little overgrown. I have got a bunch of things to help her with gnawing on stuff and I'm going to give it a week or two and see if there's an improvement. Otherwise she'll be having it trimmed.

This girl is going to be called Jenny.

Awwww, little Jenny is a very pretty girl!

I hope Jenny's personality will be such that she and Jimmy will become great friends.
It sounds as though you make a wide decision and took everything possible into consideration.

Good job in coming up with a good workable solution to the quarantine problem. Initiative works wonders!

I love the pictures of Jimmy with Jay, Sage and Jake.
Jimmy is such a sweet little fellow, I hope the others will comfort him as best they can until Jenny's quarantine is complete.

It's really nice to see the support given by your flock to Jimmy and my heart melted at those pics of Sage and Jimmy perching together.

Congratulations on getting Jenny! I hope she will be a good fit to your flock and that Jimmy finds in her a suitable mate.

My main concern with the decision was finding a suitable mate for Jimmy, that was the ultimate goal to find the best possible friend for him. Hopefully by the time quarantine is over he will be ready for a new friend. He is enjoying the fresh rosemary I put in his cage right now.

Not having the conservatory right now is a bit of a pain but finding homes for budgies is important so we just needed some way around it.

I wasn't sure if they would be much comfort to Jimmy, but they have been great. I'm going to keep them all as social as I can right now and let him see them all.

Sage is a good companion for budgie who want some peace and quiet. It was lovely seeing them sit together for their nap. I hope Jenny will fit in well with the others. I'm not sure he'll find that special bond he had with Sunny but I'm doing my best for him.

It is so sweet that Jimmy's good friends have come to give their condolences and keep him company . It's just not the same though, being a single guy, especially when sweet Jimmy is the type of guy who wants to be in a committed relationship .

Jenny is gorgeous wow! I'm always amazed how you're able to find such variety in color mutations, and especially when looking for specific traits. That's it... the next time I ever get budgies, I'm coming to where you live, and smuggling them back lol!

Jimmy has some good friends.

Jenny's colours are very soft and muted and I think they look lovely. I won't be able to visit her too often but it's nice to know she's in good care while we're waiting out quarantine. But I wasn't really bothered about the mutation, just the personality.
Heehee. You do very well with your cute budgies!

Emma,

I'm so glad to see your flock and look forward to this ongoing thread very much

I think it's started off wonderfully so far and I'm glad to see that Sadie is settling in.

Congratulations on your new addition, Jenny. She's absolutely adorable and I can tell you took a long time to make an informed decision that will help Jimmy to bond better with his new friend in the long run.

I can't wait to see and hear more about your flock!
