Love the videos and pictures, wouldn't you love to know what was being said in all the chatter? One of my guys will come out and sit on top of the cage and chatter away endlessly to the corner of the cage. They are so funny and entertaining.

Great new pictures!
Love that Fido chats up the beads on his swing.
My guys do the same and it makes me laugh.

We sadly lost little George this morning
Chester seems to be coping OK with the loss of his buddy, he has turned his attention to the toys in the cage and seems to be doing ok.
He called and looked for George in the cage for an hour or so after I got home from the Vet, then it seemed like he understood that he would not be coming back.
He still calls for him once in a while with that cute little voice of his

Anyways, it is what it is and now I have to make a decision, either I get a new friend for Chester, risking a bad match up, or I try and make it work with 3 budgies once he is introduced to Fido and Berty.

I would appreciate some input from the experienced Members / Budgie owners here as to what the pro's and cons of each scenario are, and if anyone has been in a similar situation

Fido and Berty are doing ok in the spare room it seems

Just a picture of my little trooper

René, I'm so sorry for your loss of baby George May he rest in peace.

I'm glad little Chester is doing well despite the loss of his friend.

Personally, I think it depends on what you feel is best for your situation.

If you have the space and resources to house another budgie individually should they not take to Chester (or vice versa), then I believe you should take time to observe Chester and take note of his temperament so you can choose another little friend for him with the best possible chance of them being friends.

If you introduce Chester to Fido and Berty, and don't get another budgie, it is very possible that one of them will be left out, which would alter the flock dynamics significantly. Of course, there's a chance that wouldn't happen, but the thing is that you never know.

Additionally, not having a fourth budgie could give you a chance to have a more personal bond with Chester, if that's something that you're trying to do. You could always wait a few months and see if he adapts well to being a solo budgie, housed separately but maybe having playtime with Fido and Berty and spending lots of one-on-one time with you, before deciding if you feel that he needs a friend.

Honestly, I don't feel like that helped at all, but essentially it's up to you and what you're observing with Chester. If after a week or so he seems like he doesn't want to play or interact with you, and wants a budgie buddy, then another budgie would be a good idea. If he settles in to "the single life" and is enjoying himself and curious about you and his surroundings, then perhaps you may want to wait a bit and see how he adapts.

It depends Keep us posted on what you decide!

Personally, having had three male budgies together (after the loss of Sunny) I can say that I would recommend you get another male as a friend for Chester.

In my experience, trying to keep three budgies together usually results in one being "left out" with two being more closely bonded.

Chester is very young and the likelihood is that he will bond quite well with another male budgie (after quarantine).

I would recommend after the quarantine period housing Chester and the new budgie together in one cage for several weeks to ensure they bond well before housing the two in with Fido and Berty.

The four can enjoy out of cage time together, but housing them in pairs of two will help ensure Chester and the new boy's bond becomes strong before you move them all in together.

René, I'm very sorry to hear that you lost George .
I think the suggestions above sound like a good plan. Chester is beautiful. I especially like mauve pied with yellow face. As an adult, he'll be a knockout!

I'm really so very sorry to hear that you've lost George.

Just wondering out loud to more experienced members here....
If Rene decided look for another 4th budgie boy, then seeing as it's only 2 weeks since George was brought home, if she were to revisit the pet shop and they hadn't yet received more budgies, could she skip the quarantine with Chester (obviously not with Fido & Bertie)???

I know that you'd want to choose carefully Rene, but if there was a suitable little fellow there, it could avoid the 3 room quarantine situation (shoot me down if I'm wrong here guys) and seeing as Chester is so young, I'm guessing that he probably wouldn't need the time to grieve that a budgie losing a long term mate would need.

I really do not mean to rush you into any decision here and I fully understand that it needs to be a very careful choice.
