Budgie Breeding Before breeding any species, it is important to learn as much about the animals, their personalities and the best practices to follow for responsible and ethical breeding prior to making the commitment to take on the responsibility.

Default Mating long after last egg was laid

Pamuk and Paradise have been paired up. This is Pamuk's first time breeding, and she has laid 4 eggs. All of them are fertile.

Her last egg was laid 4 days ago, so I thought she was done laying.

Today I caught Pamuk and Paradise mating again. A lot.... They seemed to be really into it. LOL

I don't really know if she will lay again. I've never had a female have a gap in laying before, and I've never caught them mating after she's finished laying.

Do you think she's actually done?

I did add a 5th egg into her nest today fostered in from Lulu and Blaze, but I don't think that would trigger anything....would it?

I have a feeling that Pamuk may not be finished laying yet.

Perhaps one of our other breeders have experienced something of this nature and will be able to offer advice.

I know with my cockatiels, they'll mate again if they've got more eggs coming. Not sure if it works the same way with Budgies.

And sometimes budgies mate without a nest box or laying any eggs.

Thanks guys! I guess I will just have to wait and see if she has any more eggs.

I don't see any hints of egg bum, so maybe they were just having fun. Lol

Well so far so good, Pamuk has not laid any more eggs.

On a side note, the "Wooopsie" egg that Lulu laid and that got fostered into this nest, is FERTILE! lol. omg.

Yes, Lulu did lay one more egg, but she did it in the big flight cage, since I removed her from the breeding cage.

I found it broken on the bottom of the cage.

If she is going to lay another one, it will be today. I've been keeping An eye on her and she is doing well, and it doesn't look like she has any more egg bum. I hope the change into the flight cage threw her off her laying cycle.
