Budgie Breeding Before breeding any species, it is important to learn as much about the animals, their personalities and the best practices to follow for responsible and ethical breeding prior to making the commitment to take on the responsibility.

Default Hi long time no post sapphire is a dad!

So back in September we were droping my daughter off at college for her first year and then I had medical issues. My husband couldn't deal with the birds so we gave sapphire and sprite to a wonderful friend of mine who hand raises birds she paired sapphire up with a gorgeous White English budgie and now they have 5 babies I will try to post a link to there album but do far I have had no luck in getting it to work

Hi Kathy and welcome back.

I'm sorry to hear you've had medical problems resulting in your need to rehome Sapphire and Sprite. It sounds as though your friend is going a good job with your budgies and Sapphire's babies are beautiful.

Best wishes!

Hi Kathy! It's good to see you on the forums again

Sapphire's babies are precious

Will you be keeping one of the chicks as you recover from your medical issues?

It's wonderful that you'll be able to enjoy a new little budgie friend.

I'm sure if your breeder friend is as responsible as she sounds she knows it will be best not to release the baby until he is a minimum of 8 weeks old and has been eating on his own for a minimum of two full weeks. This will help to prevent signs of regression.

Additionally, the more time the baby can spend with his dad and siblings, the better socialized in how to be a budgie he will be.

Planned Co-Parenting in Raising Tame Chicks

We'll be looking forward to meeting your new little guy in the future!

Hi yes she has been breeding and hand feeding for 20+ years and I would not bring him home until he was eating on his own anyways thanks

The reason she needs to hand feed this clutch is the mom smoki will start feather plucking the babies.
