Budgie Breeding Before breeding any species, it is important to learn as much about the animals, their personalities and the best practices to follow for responsible and ethical breeding prior to making the commitment to take on the responsibility.

Default Opinion: introducing 2 females to boys and timing

So we have our two boys (one 2 years old and one 5 months old)

We recently got one female a month ago (Nevi) and our Newest female, Ophelia, yesterday.

A year from now we would love to do some hobby breeding with these little guys after letting them mature and the proper research.

I would like to introduce Nevi to the boys as her quarantine comes up in the next week or so but I heard sometimes if you introduce one female to two boys they may *both* fall in love with her and not have eyes for another female. Lol

So my question is: would you advise waiting to introduce Nevi? Should I introduce Nevi to Ophelia first (after Ophelia's quarantine) then slowly introduce both of them to the two boys (after their cage next to the boys for a week or so etc)?

Or just introduce Nevi now and Ophelia after her 45 day quarantine? Just wondering what you feel is best way to proceed.

Thanks!

I'm not very sure, but I would introduce the two females to each other first. Also keep in mind the males and females may not even mate.

Considering Ophelia is currently unwell, I'll close this thread at this time.

Hopefully when she is feeling better you can contact one of the staff and we can open this up again.
