Default Budgie bullying

Hey guys, I have a male budge and female budgie around 3-4 months old living in one big cage. The female (Eve) is bullying Adam a lot now! She keeps hogging the seed bowl, and when Adam tries to get to the fruit bowl, she follows him then pushes him away sometimes. When I get Adam to step onto my hand to have some seeds she would fly to him and start "screaming" at him offensively so he jumps off. So I kind of have to put my other hand next to Adam to prevent her from flying to him, as she's still scared of my hand. (Unless if I have treats) She also keeps hogging sleeping spots for the fun of it. Adam would go to a perch then eve would push him off. He would go to another perch and Eve would continue to follow him until she is tired what should I do? I'd prefer not seperating them, but might have to.

Thanks in advance!

Hi! to Talk Budgies

Having the answers to the following questions will better allow us to give you an appropriate response to your inquiry:

How large is the cage? Length x Width x Height
Do you have multiple food bowls and water bowls in the cage?
Are the two birds related?
Did you get them at the same time?

If the behavior is actual on-going bullying then the two budgies need to be separated for the emotional and physical well-being of the male. You can house the two birds in cages near one another and then see how they do in having supervised out-of-cage time together.

Please take the time to read through the Site Guidelines, all of the How To Guides, the FAQs, the Budgie Articles and the stickies located at the top of each section of the forum.

You'll find most basic questions about budgies and caring for them will have been answered after you've read through all of them.

Hi there and to the forums!

It's great to have you with us, and you've already received some great advice and resources

I can't add anything to what Deborah's already said, but be sure to read through the forums, including the Budgie Articles and "stickies" (threads "stuck" to the top of each subforum for easy reference) to stay up to date on the very best of budgie care, and if you have any questions, be sure to ask as we'd love to help

Please keep us updated on Adam and Eve! I hope to meet them soon

Cheers!

Thank you for your responses, and so sorry for the late reply!

Adam and Eve were purchased together, although I don't know if they are related. They kiss every now and then so perhaps they are lovers? They have 2 bowls where I put seeds/pelleted food, 2 water bowls, and one fruit/vegetable bowl. Cage size: 61.5cm x 70cm x 43.5 cm

They seem to be getting better. Before they would just kind of fight over one food bowl. But now whoever loses goes to the other food bowl in the cage. Progress..

The cage size you have is adequate for the two budgies
24" x 27.5 x 17" = 11,220 cubic inches

I'm glad to hear that with the multiple food and water dishes they are doing better now.

As you have both a male and female, you will need to be sure you do everything possible to discourage breeding.
