Default Angry Scream!

So I've had Sidney for 5 days now... and the past 3 days every now and then he'd make a cute little chirp. Today, however, he started making these "angry sounding" noises... they sound like this http://www.****************/sounds.html (click on "a mad budgie!").

He doesnt do it constantly but he's been doing it quite frequently so far today. I dont know why.

Haha don't you just love the 'budgie scold'? My birds do this a lot...usually when I'm not bringing breakfast fast enough or if they hear something outside they don't approve of. Have you noticed if you've been doing anything in particular that sets him off? [Laundry, dishes, ect]. My budgies absolutely cannot stand it when I'm on the phone. They will scream their heads off. Is he acting normally, eating, drinking, pooping? I would say he's fine and is just 'voicing her opinion'.

Well I have 13 budgies and you should hear them when about 4 start doing it at the same time.
Sometimes they are not happy with the other budgies or displeased about something.
Does he have a mate or another budgie friend?
Are there plenty of toys to keep busy?
Does he get out of the cage for exercise?
Do you leave music playing to keep him company?

He (i think its a boy) doesnt have a friend... yet (i plan on getting him a male budgie friend VERY soon). He is eating and pooping regularly... as well as scratching and preening a lot! Since i only got him on sunday his cage isnt too crowded with toys... He has a natural branch perch as well as 2 perches that came with the cage... he is in the medium sized vision cage. He also has a swing, 2 toys, a ladder which leads to the bottom of the cage, a cuttle bone, and some millet.

I am thinking it might have been the music i was playing... as soon as i switched it to beethoven, he calmed right down. He seems to be very interested in watching the visualizer on my computer while music is playing (the one on itues where there are lots of swirling colors!).

So maybe it was just him showing his dislike for the music??

Sounds like you figured it out. Sometimes they just don't like our music. Sully hates my metal music and sure lets me know. Sounds like your boy must just prefer classical!

I guess so! haha too funny! Also, could anyone guess how old he is? I got him from the pet store so I have no clue... Its kinda hard to see but he does have some barring on his head up to the front of his eyes but not completely down to his cere. I think he is molting right now too... and almost positive it is definately a HE!

Can I get him a male budgie as a friend? Are they guarenteed to get along? Because my parents will only allow a 2nd budgie if they can be in the same cage (after the quarantine period of course).

i cant help you with the age.. but from what i know.. if the eyes are still an all black with no white rings around them they are roughly about 4 months or younger.. ofcourse i dont think the identifying age with the eye colour applies for all budgie morphs so ill let a more experienced person answer that one... you can reasearch it on the net.. there are some helpfull tips for how you can roughly estimate the age of some types of budgies...

and most people agree.. 2 boys get along better than 2 girls or a girl and a boy.. so if you decide to get another budgie.. it would prolly be better if you got a boy theres a higher chance there that they would get along.. but as for the garantee that they will get along.. no such thing buddy ... it will all come down to the two boys and if they decide to like each other..the best thing you can do.. in my opinion.. is buy a boy whos roughly the same age... and introduce them in a nice way after quaratine.. dont just throw them in the same cage together... after your quaratine.. put the cages side by side so theyll get introduced... then perhaps allow them both out of cage time so they can play together.. and when your confident that they will get along.. move them in together... ...

My little boy, Strider, does this. He can sit and sing the most beautiful songs for hours it seems, and imbetween, every so often, he will scold a toy, or talk to himself... for him it is just a natural part of his communication. And I like that he is exercising his vocal chords. He can get very verbally abusive with his toys, but then will go back to sweetly singing.
