How do you know if your budgies will be pairing up to breed? I know that it is too early for them to breed ( neither one is ready) but are there signs that its going good/bad?
They are together now they do not fight or anything. I do see every now and again the female tries to "kiss" the male he will let her for a little while then pushes her away. When I go to separate them he will start chirping then she does then him etc etc until I put them back together, Like right now while I'm typing they are both on my shoulder cleaning themselves.
Any in put would be appreciated. I did want to try and breed them. I have not been in the budgie breeding game long but I am into chicken breeding and know about that. They kinda go together (Albeit just a little) Thanks for any advice.
Breeding requires the pair to be bonded before anything else. This includes: preening each other, feeding each other, touching beaks, doing the mating dance (which is basically the male movign back and forth on the perch and bobbing his head with his head feathers puffed up) and eye dilation.
Here is a great site that you can check out for what a bonded pair does (scroll down to the very bottom) http://www.****************/behavior.html
Once they are bonded and a nest box has been provided, you will notice that the male will keep courting the female, and she will go into mating position (sink her body and raise her tail), then the male will mount her if they are both ready to start a family
I think it is great that you're doing your research before starting and taking your time to learn as much as possible
