It is important that members have an emergency plan in place in case of Fire, Storms or other Catastrophes which require evacuation of your pets from your home.

An emergency evacuation cage should be set up and on hand easily accessible and near your normal cage.

The cage needs to have a minimum of one stationery perch and a clean food and water dish already in place

Having several layers of newspapers already inside the cage will be helpful in case you must be away from your home for more than a day or so.

A fleece blanket should be included with the supplies to use for covering the cage in case of cold weather, rain or drafts.

You can store the emergency cage in a plastic garbage bag to keep it clean
Included with the cage you need a minimum of:
A soft small towel (for emergency capture of budgie(s) if necessary)
Sealed bottle of water
Plastic Container of Food
In the event of a tornado when you are not evacuating your home, if there is a basement, then you and your pets should shelter there as that is the safest place.

In a house with no basement, a dorm, or an apartment: Avoid windows.
Go to the lowest floor, small center room (like a bathroom or closet), under a stairwell, or in an interior hallway with no windows.
Crouch as low as possible to the floor, facing down; and cover your head with your hands.

Hurricanes come with more warning than tornados which can arise suddenly.

Anyone living in hurricane areas should plan ahead and have a list of the following in case evacuation is mandated:

Nearby Shelters and whether or not they will allow pets

Pet friendly hotels far enough away from the "normal" hurricane pattern for your location yet within reasonable distance if you leave prior to the "hurricane evacuation rush".

Reviewing and or printing the information in the following links, as well as having an evacuation plan your entire family knows and will follow will be helpful if the time ever comes when you are faced with a weather related emergency situation:
