I've had my budgies for approximately 2 weeks now. They are both active, love seed & millet, are responding to 'up', etc.

I've tried giving them carrot, corn, apple, strawberry, chicken, mango, papaya...they ignore everything except Cheerios lol

Is it a matter of keep trying, give them time? Are there any particular foods most budgies can't resist?

Thanks :budgie:

Mine are the most interested in anything leafy and green. Things like spinach, dandelions, basil and clover. next in line after that is stuff that can be mushed up and have seeds added... like bananas or mashed potatos.

Mainly though is the clover and basil. they react to it like they react to millet! It's almost scary *L*

Introducing veggies to budgies is like weening them from the mothers food, to solid food. It's a conversion from seed to veggies, and it may take some time.

Your best bet is to keep trying, even if they don't touch it. Sooner or later, curiosity will get the better of them.

Some budgies like their veggies prepared differently. Some like it mashed, others like it raw. You can try giving them differently prepared versions of veggies and see which ones they prefer.

Another method has been successful with some people. Leave seeds for them in the morning and after they have had their breakfast, take the seeds out and place in some fresh veggies. When it turns late afternoon, let them have their seeds until the morning.

Budgies eat the most in the morning and late afternoon, so it's important that they do eat during those times. But during the day, the only thing they will have to nibble on will be veggies. This may urge them to try and taste.

Good luck :D

I just clipped some broccoli to the side of the cage and Boy eventually went to see what it was and started eating. Now, he'll eat anything I clip there. He had scrambled egg on toast for breakfast this morning. LOL!!

My birds like any kind of lettuce and celery tops. I have clips on the tops of their cages but they will also eat in the kitchen when they see me bring out the greens. One thing - my late Vida looked at the frisee lettuce that I had just finished washing. He landed on the lettuce and took a "bath" in it and then ate it. Sandy does this too. I made another vegetable that night. :budgie:

Don't give up- I got mine started when they were out of the cage-they like to stay on top of their cage so I fixed a plate with frozen mixed veggies-(thawed out to room temp)broccolli, and whatever else I had and broke up a millet spray on top in front of them-give them time and they will get curious-it's real important that they have variety-not just seeds and pellets
