I've wanted to buy a playgym for my budgies for some time now. But I wasn't able to find one at any local petshops and didn't want to order online. So I decided to make my own. My husband recently pruned some of our trees. I found the ideal branch and let it dry in the sun for a few days.
I spent this morning rigging it up. The base is in a huge plantpot. And it is adorned with lots of toys. I'm going to rig up a few seed dishes for them but haven't gotten around to that yet.

Max and Jewel get to try it out first.

I think most fruit trees are safe for budgies. You can check this link though http://www.mdvaden.com/bird_page.shtml
I would have used my apple tree branches but the maple seemed to have the best shape. Something with branches that go to the sides more than straight up. I had to tie in some perches so the budgies wouldn't have to hang sideways all the time :)

Nope. I did it in a morning. I fiddled with it a bit changing things around but really it was easy. I recommend it for everyone - even on a smaller scale.

Well here are some shots of the birds in the playgym.
Jewel checks out the seed dish I tied on. She was more interested in the rope than the seed.

And she peeks out at me from behind a branch.
