Today I came home from an activity and found one of my three parakeets, Sunny, lying on the bottom of the cage, dead. I am extremely upset, because he showed no signs of sickness or injury, but his feet were really chewed up, possibly by my other two. I need to know if you guys have any idea as to why he died, so i can keep my other two with me! Please help ASAP!

I am so sorry to hear about your precious little Sunny. There is no way to really tell how your budgie died unless you have a necropsy done. Even then, sometimes the results are inconclusive.

I suggest that if you wish to find out what possibly caused the death, that you consider having a necropsy done. This can be important for a couple of reasons:

1. you get some closure on the death
2. you find out if your other budgies are at risk if Sunny died from a contagious illness...

Again, I am really sorry that this happened to Sunny. It can be such a devastating experience, especially when there were no signs leading up to it.

I am so sorry. I recently lost two of my babies and can easily remember how devestated I was. I too saw no warning signs.
Take your bird's body to the vet. They may be able to tell you something. You also might consider taking your other two in for a check-up just to be safe.
Budgies hide their illnesses until the last possible moment. In the wild, showing signs of illness translate into "lunch" for enemies.
Please don't blame yourself, it wasn't your fault.

I'm so sorry for your loss... especially since it was so unexpected and unexplainable. I would also recommend you take the body to the vet. It would not only give you closure, but give you answers for all of the unanswered questions you might have. You might want to look into avian vets in your area tonight so you can make an appointment first thing in the morning if possible. Again, I'm extremely sorry for your loss.

It may be easier to just take your birds in for a well bird check up.
It runs about 45 dollors a bird here. (get a little break if I take in two) Its a 100 here to have a necropsy done.

Every place is different in what they charge. I paid $65.00 for two birds and the recheck 4 weeks later was free. I hope your other birds are doing ok.
