Arthritis xXx

A while ago, i noticed my little girl Greengrass seemed to be having problems with one of her feet. We took her to the vet and the vet told us Green has arthritis. She had been ok for a while but recently she has been getting worse. She struggles to stay on the perch and has to hang on with her beak. Also she puts her foot up on the side of the bars to keep her balance. But usually she falls off the perch and ends up sitting fluffed up on the floor. I hate seeing her like this. :( She is also having trouble sitting on her seed dish. She also tries using her wings to keep her balance but she ends up falling and landing with her wings in akward positions. :( She won't give up trying to climb up to her perch.

Oh dear, maybe another visit to the vet is a good idea? I suppose Green is getting older and athritis is getting the better of her. I wish her luck and hope she begins to improve.

I am so sorry to hear about your little sweetie. It must be painful to see your little one in that condition. You may wish to change the perches for your sweetie so they are softer and so that your budgie can grip them better. That may mean offering skinnier perches.

Here's a link that may offer you some tips to modifying the cage to make it more comfortable. While not everything in this article will be applicable to your budgie's situation, you may find some things quite helpful.;)

How is she making out? Have you used any new perches? What about soft rope perches in addition to your natural wood perches???

Green's not doing too well, she wants to sit on the Cherry Tree Branch but just has'nt enough strength to climb up to it. :( She can only use the one foot and her beak you see.
