Ok some of you asked if I would post "fictional" pairing so we can try out our genetic "skills."

We are pairng up a normal light green cock with a sky hen.
What will you chicks be?

Woops guess I should have been a bit more clear.

Looking at the pedigree on the following birds what color of chicks would you have.

Light Green cock - has no splits
and a
Sky hen - has not splits.

All ckicks will be visably green and will be split for blue.

Yesk Huskymom you passed!

QUESTION #2

How about pairing up a sky spangle cock with a sky hen.
These birds are not split for anything else. What would you get?

If spangling is recessive sky split to spangle, if dominant, spangles?

Spangle is dominant. NO bird can be split for spangle - if they have it they show the mutation.

In answer you will get some spangle chicks and some normal chicks (all in the blue).

Cinnamon AND opaline are sex linked mutations.

Green is dominant and assuming this hen is NOT split for blue.

You would get green pied chicks that are split for blue. The hens will be cinnamon opalines as well. The cocks could be split cinnamon and could be split for opaline.
You would have to test breed in the next year with hens that are cinnamon, hens that are opaline or better yet find a hen that is BOTH cinnamon AND opaline. If the next generation produces cocks with these mutaitons you will know the fathers ARE split for these mutations.

Hey Huskymom where are you????

If you pair spangle to spangle you will get double factor spangles. Visually blue birds will be all white (dark eyes) and white flashings. Green birds will be all yellow (dark eyes) and have white flashings. When you pair up dbl factor spangls to a normal you will get 100% visual spangle chicks.

all white with white flashings... is that like the markings that flouresce that you see now and then?

Yes I believe the flashings do floures at different brightnesses. I'm trying to recall an article with pics. Flashings are come in many colors: violet, sky, steel blue/grey, split white/sky, white with a violet iridescence and black. The flashing is the splash of color near the ear at the back of the necklace spots.

ONLY albinos and lutinos do not have flashings.
