Dave,

Why do you not allow a poster the ability to delete their own post if nothing is attached to it? A poster might change their mind about a thread they started.
I has some dated information that passed, I had to ask a monitor to remove my thread so not take up valuable space after the date.

Member deletion isn't allow because typically, but not always (and I'm talking generally, not about anyone specifically), a staff member's discretion on deleting is usually better than the average user. Yes, there are some members who know when a deletion is necessary, but there are also some that don't. For example, a member might get in trouble for a post they make. To try and get out of the situation, they'll delete the post. If the post is then somehow permanently deleted, we have no proof that the incident occurred.

It is because of stuff like the example above that we (and a lot of other forums) don't allow users to delete their own posts. Again, I'm not saying this is necessarily the case here, but this is possible, so we must take precautions.
