OK...so the used cage I bought at the pet shop has a bottom "poop" tray. There isn’t a grate though so Charlie will be walking in poop if he goes to the bottom of the tray.
Is this ok?
Should I see about putting something there, maybe buy a grate?

When I had parakeets before I changed the bottom, 2 times a week so it’s not like a lot of poop would accumulate there.

Also, I am currently using a gravel type substance for the bottom. Is this ok to keep using? I have used newspaper in the past but I know keets love to tear that up.

Thanks again! :D

As long as you change the bottom often, probably 3x a week, it wont be a problem. Newspaper or plain kitchen paper towels are the best things to use because you can easily see the poops on them and will notice immediately if something's not right. :) You could distract Charlie from chewing by hanging up some torn up paper in a bunch in the cage and he will probably chew that instead.
