I have a couple questions; I just got a budgie Friday. He is maybe 2-3 months old. When I got him, I bought a parakeet cage kit. I think it is small for him though (14x14x??).

I went to a pet store today and saw a used one there for $8. This one is at least 2 feet big all around (24x24x24??). I plan on cleaning it up really good and putting Charlie (the budgie) in there so he can have more room.

Here are my questions:

1) What should I use to clean it?
2) Can I put him in it tonight after I thoroughly clean, rinse and dry it?
a. He is just starting to get over the shock of being taken away from his bird buddies at the pet store, I do not want to shock him again but I want him to have as much room as possible as soon as possible. I will keep all his old (well, 3 day old) toys and perches to put them in the new cage.

Thanks for any advice. Have a great day!

P.S. Here is a picture of him in the old (current) cage.

Hello!
You can use a diluted bleach to remove any previous birdie diseases that might be on it. Then wash it again with soap and water. I would wait for it to be totaly dried (perches etc.) before adding your bird. Then go ahead and add it.

Make sure before you buy it, you totally check it over for rust!
hope this helps :)

Thanks :)

I did check it out, no rust or any paint peeling. Just a lot of dirt and old poop. I bought new food and water cups. The cage didnt come with anything else so I onyl have to wash the cage down. :D

So you do not think putting him a new cage so soon after getting him would send him into shock? I think he will have fun exploring his new HUGE home and want to put him him tonight.

I would say go for it :)

also... with old poo etc... you might want to put it in the shower first, and let hot water spray on it for a few minutes.... it might help the dried stuff come off easier!
