View Full Version : 2 Horses...
I was on a walk this evening and I met 2 horses, a liver chestnut mare 15yrs approx and a dapple grey/fleabitten grey gelding 10yrs approx.
They were both rather skinny and the gelding had slightly overgrown hooves.
They were both mad with al the flies as well.
When I stroked the mare I could feel all the bones in her head and see her ribs, hips and shoulders. The gelding wasn't so bad.
Also they were in a field which was full with buttercups, (A big no-no.) and were consuming them.
The only source of water they had was a small stream that had really steep banks; I don't think they could of climbed down.
I looked for dung to see if they had worms, but I couldn't find any dung! Hmmmm... Suspicious.
I was wondering, should I report them to the RSPCA? The obvious answer is yes, but I just want your advice.
I really want to help these horses. And I will try to phone the RSPCA this afternoon as I have to go to school today.

Yeh, report them definatly. It's unfair on the horses to be left like that, you can change things for them. Go for it!

I also say definitely notify the RSPCA. I have no tolerance for animal neglect. :nono:

Animal Creulty is one of the worst things in the world. It really upsets me. :(

They're getting fatter! I don't think I'll bother the RSPCA as they may have much more important cases. I'll keep you updated still.
How can they have changed in just a couple of days?

Things couldn't have changed much in a day or two.... it takes horses weeks, even months to gain wieght. It would take ATLEAST a week or two to notice a slight difference.
There's nothing wrong with calling the SPCA. The owner can explain herself, usually without much hassle too.
Trust me, I'd rather have a 15 minutes convo with an SPCA officer then not. (I know this from personal experinace).
It could be as simple as both horses are recently rescued and are beginning their road to recovery. Or perhaps one is a mare just weaned from her baby (nursing foals can make even an obese horse underweight).
Or their owner could be new to horses and not know quite what their doing.
You also "approxamated" their ages, for all you know they could be 30 and are skinny because they are old (bad/no teeth, bodies just dont work as good), thier feet might be overgrown becuase arthitis makes it painful for thier feet to be picked up for long periods of time.
Most times the SPCA will just have a chat and see what they can offer if help is needed.
Just remember sometimes, circumstances overrule people who are quick to judge :)
They've gone. I can't find them anywhere. I wonder where they are?
I know they're not over 20 because they're teeth are in rather good condition. But are the shape of their ages.

they look just fine to me, with the exception of the overgrown feet.
I'm guessing they have put on wieght since you last saw them?
They look fine to me. But if I were you I would still call. The owners need to learn a little more about horse care. The chestnut needs fattening up and the hooves need trimming to. Maybe a visit from AC, will just teach them a little more.
Yep, they are recovering, but that cut wasn't there last time, it's only minor.

Just asking I mite be down the road from these horses you speak of. Is their paddock next to a big park! Cause we used to always feed these horses apples! But they may not be the same ones!
I live in England and you live in Australia, so I don't think so!
