Ok, I know that a few of you here have quite a number of birds and I was wondering if you have one that is the "runt" of the flock. Elwood is by far the smallest budgie I have, and seems to be getting picked on from the other birds. He gets pushed off perches and pushed aside when eating. What can I do to make sure that he gets all he needs? Thanks in advance for the help!!

It sounds like you may need to separate him from the group. It would be cruel to leave him in with the others who are picking on him. What a way for a budgie to live! Perhaps you've got another budgie who gets along with him that you could house him with so that he always has company.

If you decide to keep them together, one thing you will want to make sure that you do is provide more than one food dish and water dish. That way, they don't all compete for the same food sources. Since you have several budgies, you will want a few dishes throughout the cage.

Other than that, I am not sure what else you could do.

I've noticed a hierarchy in my flock. There are leaders and followers. There are little squabbles but usually everyone is fine. But, my creamino Jewel was getting picked on. I ended up moving her in with Max who was in quarantine. The other budgies (not sure if it was just one or the group) had plucked a bald spot on the back of her head. I'm going to try and reintroduce her after the hormones settle down (it is breeding season here). But if it doesn't work she may have to stay away from the flock. I will always keep her with at least one other budgie that she can get along with if she can't rejoin the flock. Perhaps it will be Max.

Thanks, I already have atleast three things of food in each cage and that still gets them going after each other because they all want what "their" having. I am going to separate him for a while and ket him stay with on of the others, who I am not sure yet. Again, thanks!!!
