Budgies and Millet

Well I've read many times how budgies love millet. Mine will eat it, but I never really thought they went "crazy" for it. Today I tried something. I held a piece of millet in my hand to see what would happen. I guess I was wrong.

Sylvester ventured down first for a nibble, and soon all of the budgies were on my hand or stretching from a perch to reach it. It was kind of cool because 4 of the budgies had never even been on my finger before. They all had to bite at my finger just a few times to make sure it wasn't anything that would hurt them but they were all gentle bites, and then just like that they would climb on. I wish my husband had been home to take some pics. I tried taking some with my left hand but wasn't very successful - my camera is heavy.

It was exciting for me and I hope it will help them realize that the big bad hand isn't anything to be afraid of.

That's pretty funny. I've never tried this with my current two budgies who can't even stand to have a hand in their cage, let alone standing on one. I'll have to try this though and see what happens. Hopefully this theory will prove true with my two scaredy cats (well, scaredy birds...). :P

Same happens to me when i take millet into the aviary. I am suddenly every budgies new best friend. :P

lol Bea could I see your avairy?I am curouis of what it looks like I am thinking of building one in a closet.Is that a good idea?

:) Millet works everytime for me, all 3 of mine will come & land on my hand its a great feeling :)
